Bemidji wrestlers Jake Crosby, Doty earn berths in state meet

Jake Crosby at 125 pounds and Colton Doty at 140 won Section 8-3A individual titles Saturday and earned berths at the state wrestling tournament.

Crosby won his first two matches by pins and defeated Mith Mehnwerth of Sauk Rapids 6-1 in the championship match.

Doty followed a similar route to his 140-pound title, posting pins against his first two opponents and downing Chris Keske of Sauk Rapids 5-2 in the title bout.

Lumberjacks Logan Crosby at 119 and Al Johnson at heavyweight each placed third, Crosby losing the true-second match 7-5 to Dan Babineau of Brainerd.

Johnson dropped his second match but rallied with two more wins to finish third.

Claiming fourths were Craig Maas at 135 and Kade Johnson at 145 while Kodi Craft was fifth at 152 and Brenden Fredriksen fifth at 171.

Bemidji head coach Rance Bahr also was honored as the Section 8-3A Coach of the Year and assistant Dale Gullickson was named the section's Assistant Coach of the Year.
