Bemidji woman killed in crash
A Bemidji woman was killed and her husband and daughter were injured Thursday morning in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 2 at Railroad Avenue in Proctor, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Julie A. Christensen, 43, died when the eastbound minivan in which she was a passenger lost control when it hydro-planed on water over the highway. It crossed into the westbound lane and was struck broadside by a Chevrolet wagon.
The accident happened shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Kevin D. Christensen, 41, of Bemidji, the driver of the minivan, was listed in good condition at St. Mary's Medical Center on Friday evening.
The Christensens' daughter, Janelle A. Christensen, 17, of Bemidji, was listed in good condition at St. Mary's.
According to the State Patrol the other driver, Lynn M. Carlson, 43, of Duluth, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She was not listed as a patient at either SMDC or St. Luke's Hospital on Friday afternoon.
Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.
The Christensens were driving to Duluth to visit The College of St. Scholastica, said Dave Christensen of Bemidji, Kevin's uncle.
"They were kind of looking at college possibilities (for Janelle)," he said.
Their son, Justin Christensen, is in his first year at Bemidji State University.
The family has lived in Bemidji since before the children were born, Dave Christensen said. Julie worked at North Country Regional Hospital on the Nurses' Resource Team, and Kevin works out of his home as a lumber broker, Dave said. The family attends Calvary Lutheran Church.
Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji is assisting the family with Julie's funeral arrangements.
