Bemidji volleyball sweeps Hibbing with early leads, strong serving
The Bemidji volleyball team defeated Hibbing 3-0 Tuesday at Bemidji High School.
The game scores were 25-14, 25-19, and 25-13.
The Lumberjacks jumped ahead to an early lead in each of the three games and never looked back.
"It is always nice to get a little cushion," said Bemidji head coach Teresa Colligan. "Then the girls can relax and play their game."
After Hibbing took a 10-8 lead in the first game, Bemidji scored nine of the next 10 points to lead 17-11.
Jasmin Yerbich and Nicole McDonald were serving for the Lumberjacks during the run.
Allie Heifort's four kills led Bemidji to the win.
Heifort picked up nine kills on the night.
"We really wanted to focus on playing consistent," said Colligan. "It has always been our goal to play consistent and not let our opponent get on a run."
Brianna Thorson served seven straight points to give Bemidji an early 10-5 lead in the second game.
Despite three kills from Ebony Gray and Brylee Hocking, the Bluejackets were not able to catch the Lumberjacks.
Hocking led Hibbing with six kills.
It was Hannah Olson that delivered while serving in the third game.
She scored six straight points, including two aces, to give the Lumberjacks a 10-4 lead.
Olson had three aces on the night.
With Bemidji leading 18-13; McDonald rattled off seven consecutive points including a game-ending ace, to seal the win.
McDonald led the Lumberjacks with four aces.
Jessica Yost picked up seven of her game-high 13 kills in the third game.
Yost, Yerbrich, Olson, and Thorson all had eight digs.
"It was nice," Colligan said of the win. "We have a busy week this week, so it is nice to start it off with a win."
