Bemidji volleyball, soccer lose matches on road
The Bemidji volleyball team lost to Chanhassen 3-1 Saturday at Moorhead.
After winning the first game 26-24, the Lumberjacks lost the next three games 25-12, 25-18, and 25-11.
"We just did not play as consistent as we wanted to," Bemidji head coach Teresa Colligan said. "Our passing was inconsistent and we had a hard time staying up on ourselves."
Jenna Sagedahl led the Lumberjacks with 30 assists.
Allie Heifort pounded a team-high 14 kills and also recorded two blocks.
Jessica Yost led the team with 15 digs. She also had nine kills. Kellie Morehouse had eight kills.
"They have a really good team," said Colligan. "We had some great rallies, but we were not able to finish them like we should."
Sagedahl and Brianna Thorson each had 13 digs.
Bemidji will host East Grand Forks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Bemidji girls soccer team lost 4-2 Saturday at Moorhead.
Erin Booth's two goals were not enough to lift the Lumberjacks over the Spuds.
Moorhead's first goal came in the 16th minute when Morgan Nyquist scored. Nine minutes later, Marissa Wong scored to make the score 2-0 in favor of Moorhead.
Bemidji trailed 2-0 at the half.
"It was tough being down by two goals so early," said Bemidji head coach Kelly Schoonover. "Playing in Moorhead with the strong wind is always tough. It is also tough playing during homecoming week with all that is going on."
Booth's first goal came in the 44th minute to cut the deficit in half. Emily Boyer assisted Booth on the goal.
"It was nice to get a goal so quick in the second half," said Schoonover. "The girls made adjustments to improve and they stayed competitive."
Moorhead struck back in the 63rd minute when Missy Setter found the net.
One minute later, Bianca Clark scored on corner kick to give Moorhead a three-goal lead.
Booth scored her second goal four minutes later.
"They definitely had more chances shots," said Schoonover. "We had our chances but just were not able to execute. Moorhead is one of the tougher teams we play all year."
Goalkeeper Casey Palmer recorded nine of her 12 saves in the second half. Moorhead's Cate Cavalier stopped nine shots.
Bemidji will play at Crookston 5 p.m. on Monday.
