Bemidji volleyball faces Moorhead in section tourney quarterfinal

The Bemidji volleyball team heads to Moorhead today for a 7 p.m. match against the Spuds in the Section 8-3A quarterfinals.

The seedings proved accurate in Wednesday's opening round as the higher-ranked squads prevailed in each match.

BHS, the third seed in the North Sub-Section, eliminated Alexandria which was the sixth seed from the North 25-20, 25-21, 30-28.

Moorhead, which entered the tournament seeded No. 2 in the North, ousted No. 7 Detroit Lakes 25-20, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16.

Today's other North Sub-Section battle will send No. 4 Brainerd to No. 1 Fergus Falls. In Wednesday's action Brainerd belted No. 5 St. Cloud Apollo 25-13, 25-19, 25-17 while Fergus Falls had a bye.

In tonight's South Sub-Section action No. 3 Sauk Rapids will visit No. 2 St. Cloud Tech and No. 1 Monticello will entertain No. 4 Sartell. Monticello and St. Cloud Tech had byes on Wednesday while Sartell dumped No. 5 Rocori 25-20, 14-25, 25-20, 25-16 and Sauk Rapids blistered No. 6 Big Lake 25-21, 25-15, 25-15.

Today's survivors advance to the section semifinals on Nov. 1 at the homes of the higher seeds. If the Lumberjacks win they will face the Monticello-Sartell winner at 7 p.m.
