Bemidji track teams wrap up section meet Saturday

The Bemidji High boys and girls track teams wind up the two-day Section 8AA meet today at Sartell.

The finals in 14 events will be run today, six of which had preliminaries Wednesday at Alexandria along with finals in the 3200 and three field events for each division.

The girls were in the high jump, long jump and discus and the boys in the long jump, pole vault and shot.

Each team qualified one entrant for the state with Erik Truedson taking second to Drew Paradis of Alex in the 3200 and Selina Gilbertson second to Ally Nielson of Detroit Lakes in the discus,

In the preliminaries, the boys fared far better than the girls. They advanced Travis Greenwaldt in 100 and 200, Nate McGriff and Pete Humeniuk in the 400 and Alex Schoneberger in the 800.

'Barring any DQ's all of that group will score today. Bemidji goes into the finals with 15 points in sixth place, only 13 behind defending champion Moorhead in first.

The girls, despite a large number of personal bests, advanced only Abby Hendricks in the high and intermediate hurdles. Taking third in the intermediates and sixth in the highs.

The girls had 11 points and were also in sixth.

The boys will have Truedson, Matt Lee and Tanner Asper in the metric mile run today.

The relays match Jake Robinson, Jordan Dahl, Eric Hernesman and Eric Johannsen in the 400, McGriff, Humeniuk, Grant Mitchell and Greenwaldt in the 800, Humeniuk, John Buckanaga, Mitchell and McGriff in the 1600 and Buckanaga, Schoneberger, Lee and Zac Oelrich in the 3200.

In the field, Bemidji will find Joe Kingery, Ben Schram and Ryan Erickson in the discus, Kingery, Derek Davis ad Gentri Jordan in the high jump and Christian Graefe, Kevin Nelson and Dan Kilday in the triple

jump.
