Bemidji tournament helps youth programs

BEMIDJI - Local teams captured six of the eight championships at the Bemidji Blast soccer invitational over the weekend.

The winners included the Bridgid's Futball Club in the adult division.

Bemidji teams also claimed titles in the girls 10-U, girls 16-U, boys 10-U, boys 14-U and boys 16-U.

Placing second for the Bemidji Youth Soccer program were the girls 12-U and boy 12-U squads.

"We had 210 kids playing on 25 different youth teams and 10 adult teams in the tournament," said Rick Toward who helped organize the second annual event.

"We had teams from Fargo, Alexandria, Grand Rapids, Brainerd Thief River Falls and Walker. It was a well run tournament and we had great community support."

All money raised during the tournament will be used to provide financial assistance to families of prospective soccer players.

Girls 10-U: 1-Bemidji Extreme; 2-Brainerd Blast

Girls 12-U: 1-Grand Rapids; 2-Bemidji United

Girls 16-U: 1-BALLARRs (Bemidji); 2-Theif River Falls

Boys 10-U: 1-Anklebusters (Bemidji); 2-Bemidji One

Boys 12-U: 1-Brainerd Blast; 2-Team Extreme (Bemidji)

Boys U-14: 1-Bemidji Extreme; 2-Grand Rapids

Boys U-16: 1-Bemidji; 2-Alexandria
