Bemidji tops Centennial, Owatonna

ST. MICHAEL – The Bemidji volleyball team advanced to today’s winner’s bracket of the St. Michael-Albertville Invitational with a pair of Friday victories.

The Lumberjacks opened the tournament with a 24-26, 25-19, 15-7 win over Centennial and then swept a very good Owatonna team 25-20, 25-16.

The victories advanced BHS to today’s 10:45 a.m. winner’s bracket contest against Southwest Minnesota Christian. Bemidji will play two other matches today.

“We played very well in the last two games against Centennial and both games against Owatonna,” said Lumberjacks coach Teresa Colligan.

“We had an exceptional serving game, especially against Owatonna. “We kept them off balance with our aggressive serves and our defense really picked it up.”

In the win over Centennial Jess Yost had 15 kills and Timi Severson and Allie Heifort had seven.

Alexa Greendahl contributed 29 set assists, Blake Bardwell collected three blocks and Hanna Olson ripped a pair of aces.

Yost added 10 kills and Severson eight in the victory over Owatonna.

Greendahl had 19 assts, Yost and Heifort three blocks and Myria Colley two aces.
