BEMIDJI – The Bemidji High School tennis team defeated Grand Rapids 4-3 in a dual meet Tuesday afternoon in Bemidji.
It was the first home meet and the first dual meet for the Jacks, who were in the Pine City and Brainerd tournaments earlier this season.
The Jacks won three of four singles matches. No. 1 Jess Solberg beat Grand Rapids’ Carlie Ridgeway in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Amy Frosaker defeated Grand Rapids’ Maria Stampohar 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. No. 3 Claudia Bellew swept Megan Dulong 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play, the Jacks had only one win – No. 2 doubles players Kenzie Schultz and Alexis Konecne defeated Megan Ritter and Megan Dulong in three sets, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2.
All thee doubles matches went down to the wire for BHS.
The No. 1 team of Annika Johnson and Olivia Dickinson lost in three sets to Kenzie Kane and Taylor Kane. Likewise, the No. 3 team of Claire Baumgartner and Jenna Lee lost to Mariah Linder and Lexie Korbitz.
Baumgartner and Lee took the first set with a tiebreak, 7-6 (8-6), but dropped the next set with another tiebreak at 6-7 (2-7). They lost the last set 8-10.
The other Bemidji loss came in No. 4 singles. Megan Serratore fell to Emma Wagner 6-2, 6-3.
The Jacks return to the court Sept. 11 for a Detroit Lakes triangular.
