Bemidji teacher chosen for camp
BEMIDJI -- Abram Schwartz from Bemidji Middle School was selected as one of 70 teachers from around the world to receive a scholarship to Honeywell's Green Boot Camp, a five-day, interactive workshop focused on best practices for teaching energy, sustainability and environmental concepts.
Honeywell launched Green Boot Camp in 2009 as a regional program, which, to date, 77 teachers have attended. This year, the camp welcomes teachers from the United States, Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, England, India, Mexico and The Netherlands.
The workshop will be July 16-20 in San Diego.
During the week, teachers will participate in hands-on interactive educational experiences, including designing and building a solar house and wind turbine, which will equip them with green and sustainable topics, methods, lessons and concepts to pass onto their students.
To provide a balance of classroom and hands-on training, workshops will take place at the San Diego Gas and Electric Energy Innovation Center, the California Center for Sustainable Energy and the Urban Corps of San Diego County. The three organizations are partnering with Honeywell for the camp.
