Bemidji Tea Party to hold forum Monday
The Bemidji Tea Party will hold a town hall forum 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Beltrami Electric community meeting room.
Organizers say the event will give more time for people to comment on the issues than has been given at the tea party's rallies.
"The tea party movement is not about its organizers," says a statement on the Bemidji Tea Party Web site. "It's about 'We the People'. ... This is an opportunity for you to come and speak your mind about important topics facing our country and the tea party movement."
Issues of concern to the tea party movement include Social Security and Medicare, how much power does the federal government have under the commerce clause of the Constitution, should the movement take on teachers' unions, what does the 2010 election mean to the movement, and where does the tea party movement go from here.
The town hall forum is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
