BEMIDJI - The VFW baseball team improved to 12-4 Monday after sweeping East Grand Forks 9-3 and 2-1 at the BSU diamond.
Brady Eckman went the distance on the VFW mound in the first game and limited East Grand Forks to four hits.
After spotting EGF a 1-0 lead the Vets answered with three in the lower first. Highlighting the inning were singles by Collin Rutledge, Parker Lucas and Eckman.
Rutledge singled home Thomas Revering in the second and Bemidji scored twice in the fourth with the help of Revering's single, Tyler Geerdes' RBI bunt and a wild pitch.
The home team iced the win with three in the fifth. Keying the inning were singles by James Hendricks and Daniel Johnson, Revering's bases-loaded walk and Rutledge's sacrifice fly.
Lucas and Rutledge each contributed a pair of singles.
In the nightcap Rutledge pitched a 4-hitter and also paced Bemidji's offense with three singles.
The Vets tied the game in the fourth when Lucas Goins walked, Cody Anderson was hit by a pitch and Revering singled.
Goins opened the sixth inning with a single and eventually scored the game-winner when the defense botched Revering's ground ball.
Austin Wiedemann had a double and Revering added two singles.
Bemidji hosts Fergus Falls Wednesday in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Friday the Vets visit Fergus Falls.
