The orchestra, under the direction of Beverly Everett, will open with "Fanfare for the New Renaissance," a 2008 piece by the contemporary composer Carol Worthey.

According to her Web site, Worthey began composing when she was 3. She said she understands music both as an individual and a community-building experience.

"My greatest challenge as a composer is to create music of our time that is timeless, that hasn't tossed beauty out, yet sounds fresh, that has emotional immediacy as well as technical craft," she said. "I strive to make my works heartfelt, accessible and engaging. Please remember that you the listener are part of the equation. When my music speaks to you, you speak to me and thus the circle of communication becomes complete."

Concert Master Michelle Laliberte will follow the Worthey "Fanfare" as soloist with Camille Saint-Saëns Concerto for Violin in B Minor in three movements. In Laliberte's place will be guest Concert Master Andrew Martin.

The concert will conclude with César Franck's Symphony in D Minor in three movements.

The BSO also will honor Tom and Bonnie Swanson during the concert for their service to the orchestra.

The concert is titled "French Fanfares." Everett said she chose Worthey's "Fanfare for the New Renaissance" early on and decided to make that the theme for the season.

The BSO will perform the next concert, "Final Fanfares," April 26.

Tickets cost $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students.
