Bemidji swept in doubleheader
FARGO - The Bemidji softball team played a forgettable doubleheader Thursday against West Fargo, losing both games 11-1.
"We need to find a way to forget what happened here," said BHS coach Brad Takkunen, whose team committed 11 errors in the twinbill. "The kids haven't forgotten how to play the game. It was just one of those days."
The Lumberjacks took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener when Janelle Williams reached on an outfield error, stole second and third then scored on a wild throw.
The 1-0 lead continued until the fifth, when Bemidji's defense fell apart. The home team scored nine unearned runs with the aid of four BHS errors and the outcome was decided.
West Fargo added two more unearned runs in the sixth.
Jineane Williams had two of Bemidji's three hits.
The Jacks fared no better in the rematch, as West Fargo opened the game with nine runs in the first inning.
BHS scored its run in the fourth on Jineane William's single, a groundout and Hanna Olson's single.
Bemidji, 8-5, entertains Brainerd 4:30 p.m. today.
"We need to have a quick case of amnesia because we have a very good Brainerd team coming to town on Friday," Takkunen said.
