BEMIDJI - The VFW baseball team swept Perham Wednesday and split with Detroit Lakes Thursday in action at the Bemidji State University diamond.
Those results give the Vets a 10-4 record heading into the holiday break. Bemidji is off until July 9 when it hosts East Grand Forks.
In Wednesday's opener the VFW edged Perham 5-4, scoring a run in the seventh to force extra innings and winning with a run in the eighth.
Thomas Revering started the decisive inning by reaching on an error and he eventually scored on Dan Johnson's grounder.
Brady Eckman went the distance on the mound to earn the victory. Seth Anderson and Lucas Parker each had two hits.
In the rematch Bemidji posted a 2-0 victory behind Collin Rutledge's 2-hitter. Rutledge struck out 11 and walked only three during his seven innings of work.
The Vets scored both of their runs in the third on Ben Thompson's walk, Ruledge's double, James Hendricks' RBI out and Tyler Geerdes' RBI single.
Thursday against Detroit Lakes Bemidji won the opener 7-3 but lost the rematch 14-7.
Rutledge belted a double and two singles in the first game while Geerdes contributed a pair of singles.
In the nightcap the VFW used singles by Rutledge, Revering and Gabe Salander to take a 6-1 lead after one inning but Detroit Lakes drew within 6-4 after four innings and eventually took control with eight runs in the sixth.
