The top spot in the four-team sub-district Legion baseball standings was on the line Thursday when Bemidji entertained Brainerd.

A Bemidji sweep would give the Legion the upper hand in the chase for home field for the July 12-14 double-elimination sub-district tournament, a reward for being the top seed.

And the Legion was not going to be denied as it rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth to capture Thursday's opener 5-4 and blistered Brainerd 10-2 in the nightcap.

Zach Solheim allowed only six hits in earning the complete-game victory in Thursday's first game.

The home team forged the early lead when Tyler Follis belted a 3-run home run in the third inning. On board when Follis ripped his round-tripper were Sam Dwyer who had walked and Dom Hayle who had singled.

Brainerd answered with two runs in the fourth and took a lead with a pair in the fifth. Bemidji, however, battled back in the lower sixth.

Cody Rutledge started the rally with a single. Later in the inning Bellew would contributed an RBI groundout and Solheim would drive in a teammate with a single.

The rematch was over early as Bemidji had its 10 runs after four innings.

Follis tripled and Rutledge belted a pitch over the left-field fence in the opening stanza and Follis keyed a 3-run second with a 2-run single.

Bemidji scored two more in the third. Follis' solo round-tripper, Rutledge's single and Bellew's 2-run home run in the fourth capped the scoring.

Bemidji, 13-1, will host Fosston today at 5 p.m.
