Former Bemidji State University forward Shea Walters has signed a professional contract with the Washington Capitols' East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) affiliate South Carolina Stingrays.
Walters will play out the remainder of the season with the Stingrays, which includes at least eight regular-season games through the end of March, with the hope of catching on with the organization for 2012-13.
One of eight BSU players to see time in all 38 games of the 2011-12 campaign, Walters finished his senior season with a career-high for goals (12), assists (14) and points (26). A vital cog to the 2011-12 Beavers' power-play unit, Walters led all BSU players with six power-play goals and 13 points on the man advantage.
In a Bemidji State record 141 games, the Hibbing, native, accumulated 20 goals and 50 assists for 70 points to sit 15th on BSU's Division I-era scoring list and 12th at the school in assist scoring since 1999-2000.
The South Carolina Stingrays are 34-24-4-2 to hold down third place the ECHL's Eastern Conference's South Division.
