BEMIDJI. – A pair of area ice fishing tournaments are scheduled for the next two weeks.
The fifth annual Hardwater Classic sponsored by Bemidji State University’s Beaver Pride will be noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on Lake Bemidji.
The catch-and-release tournament is a fund-raiser for the BSU athletic scholarship fund.
Registration is $30 for the general public, $20 for students and $15 for kids 12 and under.
The angler who weighs the heaviest fish will win $1,000 and many other prizes, including ice augers, tackle packages and depth finders, will be awarded.
Participants are invited to enter the contest area from the Nymore access and will be allowed to park vehicles on the ice. Officials will be available to assist with parking and security.
A pre-tournament rules meeting will take place at 11:45 a.m. the day of the event at the tournament site.

Winter Fishing Challenge
The Cass Lake Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its annual Winter Fishing Challenge noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 on Cass Lake.
Tickets for the tournament and entry into the various drawings are $40 ($45 the day of the event).
The angler who catches the largest fish will receive $2,000. Cash prizes will also be awarded to the anglers who catch the 10th, 20th, 30th and 40th heaviest fish.
Tickets are available at various Cass Lake businesses plus Taber’s and Downtown Meats in Bemidji.
