Bemidji State women's basketball team loses to Northern State

The Bemidji State women's basketball team suffered a 64-41 loss to Northern State in its first road Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest of the season Friday night at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen, South Dakota.

The first five minutes were played at an even pace. The Beavers (4-5 1-4 NSIC) saw a 7-7 tie slowly turn in the Wolves favor and trailed by 15 at halftime.

Bemidji State was plagued by their poor shooting and could not gain any ground on Northern State in the second half. The Beavers finished shooting just 25 percent from the floor.

The Wolves forced 16 turnovers from the Beavers and turned it into 12 points. They also out-rebounded the Beavers 46-33.

On a positive note, Bemidji State saw more production from the bench and outscored Northern State 24-18.

Sophomore guard Shannon Thompson lead the Beavers with nine points. Thompson made two of the team's six 3-point shots. Senior center Colleen McKay added six points and seven rebounds.

Defensively the Beavers racked up ten steals, six by senior guard Anna Hebrink.

Bemidji State will return to the floor tomorrow night at 6 p.m. when the team travels to Bismarck, North Dakota to face University of Mary.
