Bemidji State women's basketball: Freshmen leading way in solid start
The Bemidji State women's basketball team will look to continue its strong start to the season this weekend at BSU Gymnasium.
The Beavers return to Bemidji for the home opener and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener at 6 p.m. Friday against Minnesota State University, Moorhead. BSU wraps up weekend play at BSU Gymnasium Saturday against Minnesota-Crookston at 6 p.m.
The Beavers are 4-1 to star the season and that marks the team's best start since 1986-87.
A big key to the start has been the performance of the freshmen on the team.
As a group, the freshmen are averaging 35 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists per game.
Freshmen Emily Kaus and Katie Pettit have both recorded a double-double this season, which marks the first time in program history two freshmen have recorded a double-double in a season.
Sophomore Sydney Epema has had the hot hand shooting for BSU. She's hit 17 shots from 3-point range this season. That number leads the Beavers and ranks her second in the NSIC.
Bemidji State will be tested tonight by Moorhead, which has yet to lose a game and stands 5-0 this season. The Dragons have won four of their five games this season by double digit points.
Crookston is 2-3 to start the season.
