DICKINSON, N.D. - The Bemidji State volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 record at the Blue Hawk Tournament and finished in a tie for first place.
The Beavers lost the season opener Friday to Montana State-Northern 3-2 (15-25, 12-25, 25-15, 33-31, 15-9), but rallied to win the next three matches starting?Friday night with a 4-1 win over tournament host Dickinson State (25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22).
BSU wrapped up tournament play with back-to-back sweeps Saturday.
The Beavers defeated Black Hills State 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-20) in the first match of the day before beating Dickinson State in a rematch 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19.
"I think the nice thing to see today was the certain level of consistency we played with," Bemidji State head coach Wayne Chadwick said. "We were really up and down in our first match against Montana State-Northern on Friday so it was nice to see us get in a rhythm of consistency today. We really remained calm even when we lost a few points in our matches today."
The Beavers had the best overall game record of all four teams with a mark of 11-4.
The Beavers will return to the court next weekend at the Dragon Classic hosted by Minnesota State University, Moorhead.
BSU will open play Friday against Northern State at 10:30 a.m. Bemidji State also play against Adelphi University, Minot State and the University of Sioux Falls.
The?Bemidji State soccer team hosts Viterbo today at 3 p.m. in the home opener at BSU Scocer?Field.
The?Beavers are coming off a 3-1 win over North Dakota. Friday's victory in the season opener was just Bemidji State's second all-time against North Dakota.
