Bemidji State University student studying newspaper's role in community
Bemidji State University student Jillian Gandsey is seeking input from Bemidji Pioneer readers for her senior thesis on the sense of community that the print and online editions of local newspapers provides.
Gandsey, a graduate of Hibbing High School, is majoring in journalism and mass communication. She also is editor in chief of the Northern Student, the university’s student magazine.
She has set up a short online survey to help gain an understanding of community in small towns and how it relates to their newspapers. She also is working with newspapers in International Falls and Hibbing. The newspapers that have been selected will be able to access the research and use the information to help better their organizations.
