Bemidji State softball team to end home season
BEMIDJI, Minn.- The Bemidji State softball team will host Concordia University, St. Paul and St. Cloud State this weekend at the BSU Softball Field. Saturday's games against the Golden Bears will commence at 12 and 2 p.m. Saturday will serve as "Senior Day" for Bemidji State. Seniors Courtney Anderson (Virginia, Minn.), Megan Beard (Eveleth, Minn.) and Courtney Loegering (Blaine, Minn.) will be honored along with junior Kayla Babinski (Devils Lake, N.D.), who will graduate early. Sunday's games against the Huskies are set for 12 and 2 p.m. start times.
Bemidji State enters the weekend with a 9-26 (2-14 NSIC) mark after mid-week losses at Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers have been led on themound by Anderson, who has a 2.35 ERA in 110 innings pitched this season. Anderson struggled in game one of Wednesday's doubleheader contest with the Wolves. The senior gave up five earned runs on five hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Anderson will look to bounce back against the Golden Bears and Huskies. She is 20 strikeouts away from setting a season best for batters fanned. Anderson currently has 105 strikeouts on the year and needs 125 to surpass the 124 batters she struck out as a junior.
At the plate, Summer Monsrud, a freshman from Bemidji, leads the team with a .295 batting average and 14 runs scored. BSU is also getting help at the plate from Beard, who is hitting .284, and Crystal Bowen, who is hitting at a .265 clip this season. Nicole Dupay leads the team with eight RBI but is struggling overall at the plate with a .120 batting average.
