Bemidji State softball team earns split with Vikings
BEMIDJI -- The Bemidji State softball team split a doubleheader with Valley City (N.D.) State Tuesday at the BSU Softball Field.
The Beavers (7-14) won the opener 2-0 behind the two-hit pitching of senior Courtney Anderson, but the Vikings came back to win the nightcap 6-2.
In the first game, freshman Summer Monsrud led off the first with a bunt single and later scored on a single by senior Megan Beard.
Bemidji State added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cassie MacArthur led off with a bunt single and eventually scored as Nicole Dupay reached on an error.
Anderson struck out four batters in the game, improving to 4-5 on the season.
Monsrud and Crystal Bowen knocked in runs for the Beavers in the second game, but the Vikings pounded out 11 hits and broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the top of the seventh.
Bemidji State hosts Minnesota-Crookston for two games today starting at 1 p.m.
