BEMIDJI STATE ROUNDUP: St. Cloud spoils BSU’s home volleyball finale; cross country 23rd at regional
BEMIDJI – The Bemidji State volleyball team was unable to defeat St. Cloud State in its final home match of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Huskies 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18).
The loss dropped the Beavers to 4-21 (2-16 NSIC) on the season.
Senior Bethany Thompson posted her eighth double-double of the season, registering match-highs with 11 kills and 12 digs in her final home match as a Beaver. She brought her career-best season kill total to 332 and she is now 22 kills shy of becoming the ninth BSU player to reach 1,000 in a career.
BSU 23rd at regional XC meet
JOPLIN, Mo. — Led by a career-best 6,000-meter time by senior Tina Larson, the Bemidji State cross country team placed 23rd at the 2012 NCAA Division II Central Regional in Joplin, Mo. Saturday.
The Beavers completed the race in an average time of 25.14.8, as all seven of BSU’s runners posted their best times of the season.
Larson shaved nearly 30 seconds from her previous career-best (25:12) recording a 24.45.6 to finish140th among the field of 179 finishers in the final race of her collegiate career. Fellow senor Michelle Oman placed 148th with a time of 25:03.9, while Taylor Soutine was 13 seconds behind in 151st place (25:16.1) and Emily Turner turned in a time of 25:29.9 to take 156th. Junior Mackenzie Haupert rounded out the Bemidji State team score in 158th place with a time of 25:36.5.
With a team score of 719, BSU finished 691 points behind regional champion Augustana, which posted a score of 28 after three of its top five runners place among the top five in the race.
Augustana’s Runa Falch was the first to cross the finish line, logging a time of 20:39.4.
The Central Regional race marks the end of Bemidji State’s 2012 season and the collegiate cross country careers of seniors Larson and Oman.
