Bemidji State roundup: soccer team blanks Concordia-SP
BEMIDJI — Mary O’Brien and Sarah Stram each netted a goal and goalie Sonja Barr turned aside all six of Concordia-SP shots to lead the Bemidji State women’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory Sunday at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The win comes on the heels of Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Minnesota State and moves the team’s overall record to 5-1-0 and its NSIC record to 2-1.
Stram put the Beavers in the lead during 20th minute. Barr’s punt caught a wind gust and cleared virtually everyone. When a Golden Bear defender misplayed the ball off her head, Stram gained control and neatly tucked a shot inside the left post for her team-leading third goal of the season.
With the Beavers leading 1-0 to open the second half, O’Brien matched Stram for the team’s goal-scoring lead in the 52nd minute, netting her third goal of 2013. Jessie Voeller found an opening in the Concordia-SP back end and threaded a pass to O’Brien who fired a laser into the far corner of the net.
Despite being outshot 15-11 in the match, Barr and the BSU defense took care of the rest. The Beavers’ back line kept the Golden Bears at bay and Barr made the saves necessary to collect her second shutout of the season. She improved to 3-0-0 with the win.
The Beavers return to action next weekend as they hit the road for a pair of NSIC games. BSU will travel to Augustana on Saturday and to Wayne State on Sunday. Both games will start at 1 p.m.

Bemidji State’s two-day, 36-hole total of 687 left the Beavers 67 shots off the pace set by Minnesota State 300-320-620. The Mavericks, who finished the event at 44-over-par, won the team title by 32 shots.
