Bemidji State recruit Illo nets goal, assist in Slovakia's win over Latvia at World Juniors
Bemidji State University men's hockey recruit Radoslav Illo had a goal and assist in Slovakia's 8-3 win over Latvia in a IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship Group A game in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
He scored Slovakia's eighth goal of the game midway through the third period. He assisted on a goal in the first period.
The win evened Slovakia's record to 1-1 at the World Junior tournament. Slovakia's next game is Tuesday night against Canada.
In Slovakia's opening game, Illo had two assists in Slovakia's 7-3 loss to Team USA Saturday night.
Both of his assists came on goals in the first period, which gave the Slovakians a brief 2-0 lead.
Illo currently plays junior hockey in the United States Hockey League for the Tri City Storm, where he has 13 goals and seven assists in 19 games played.
He was selected in the 5th round of the NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks and is expected to join the BSU men's hockey program next fall for the inagural season in the WCHA.
