Bemidji State men's golfers win Iowa tournament
The Bemidji State University men's golf team won the Upper Iowa Spring Invitational in Iowa City last weekend.
The Beaver men posted a two-day total of 621 to take home the team title. The Bemidji women's team shot a 783 to finish eighth at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course.
BSU's Mitch Mackedanz came from behind to take home medalist honors. The senior from Paynesville, Minn., came into the second day of competition tied for fourth, four strokes off the lead. Mackedanz fired a 73 to earn top honors at 4 over. For his efforts, he was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference men's golfer of the week.
Beaver golfers James Foss and Casey Hill both shot 148 to tie for 13th place while Derek Harris tied for 23rd at 160 and Jesse Nelson tied for 37th at 164. Playing as individuals, Bemidji's Daniel Menton tied for 18th at 159 and Josh Dale tied for 46th at 166.
For the women, Jenna Schurman led the way at 185 to tie for 27th place. Marissa Mackedanz tied for 33rd at 194, Gretchen Trosen tied for 36th at 197, Ciarra Paulson took 39th at 207 and Britni Felix took 44th at 243.
