Bemidji State and MSU Moorhead entered Saturday's tied in the conference standings, and after 40 minutes of play, nothing had changed. The Dragons needed five minutes of overtime to hand the Beavers an excruciating 84-77 loss at the BSU Gymnasium.

In a game that saw plenty of big plays, Moorhead's Charlie Chapman hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 6.5 seconds on the clock to knot the game at 67-67 and send it into OT.

From there, the Dragons were to get enough stops in the extra session and convert from the line to evaporate Bemidji State's hopes of a win.

The game started on a high note for Chapman and the Dragons as the shots fell early and often. The Dragons forged an early cushion behind three bombs from Chapman and despite Bemidji State's defensive efforts, Moorhead was able to take a 43-35 lead into the half.

"We played well defensively, but they were just making shots," said BSU coach Matt Bowen, clearly disappointed after the game. "You just have to wait for them to come back to the normal numbers."

And they did just that. BSU went on a 16-2 run over an 8 minute stretch midway through the second half, finally pulling even at 57-57 with just over seven minutes to play. The game was on from here.

A Dermaine Crockrell hoop gave BSU a four-point lead with just over two minutes to go. But two key free throws were missed down the stretch, and Chapman found himself open in the corner, and the BSU lead was gone for good.

James Ellisor led the Beavers with 24 points while Cockrell added 20. The Dragons were led by D.J. Hamilton, who took game honors with 34, many of them at critical times. The loss drops the Beavers to 17-7, 12-6 in NSIC play while Moorhead moves to 17-5 and 13-6.
