Bemidji State to hold first practice of the 2010 season Thursday
The Bemidji State football team reported to campus Wednesday afternoon to pick up equipment, conduct team meetings and set up the practice field ahead of Thursday's first practice of the season.
Players are expected to run in conditioning drills in a helmets-only practice on the campus practice field adjacent to Paul Bunyan Drive. The 140-minute session is expected to begin around 3 p.m.
The team will partcipate in 21 practices over the next three weeks to prepare for the Aug. 26 season opener at Minot State in the annual Beaver Bash.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and home opener is Sept. 11 against Augustana at Chet Anderson Stadium.
The Beavers are the No. 22 ranked team in the?USA Today Division II Preaseason Top 25.
The Beavers are one of only two NSIC teams to be ranked in that poll. The other is Minnesota-Duluth at No. 4.
Bemidji State finished 8-3 overall and 7-3 in NSIC play last season.
The Beavers have a number of standout players returning this year, including All-NSIC quarterback Derek Edholm and All-NSIC defensive lineman Jordan Lardinois.
