Jake Bluhm has been selling the points of a Beaver Pride membership to the community ever since he took over as Bemidji State University's Beaver Pride Coordinator in May.

One of the ways to become a member of Beaver Pride, the scholarship fundraising group for the BSU Athletic Department, is to purchase a men's hockey season ticket in the prime seating areas around center ice at the Bemidji Regional Event Center.

Bluhm has been busy preparing for the upcoming historic first season in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association and in the new BREC.

"The season ticket sales have been going really well," said Bluhm, a former Bemidji State hockey player. "It's been an exciting and great response by all the people in Bemidji and the region. The whole process has been different because we're moving from the John Glas Fieldhouse into the Event Center, a larger venue with more capacity. We're definitely headed in the right direction with just over a month and a half to go."

One of the main administrative differences for the upcoming season will be game ticketing. BSU single hockey game tickets will be sold through Ticketmaster, a ticket service company.

Single game tickets will go on sale when the season ticket drive ends in mid-September. No specific date has been announced.

About 75 percent of the 2,600 available men's hockey season tickets, which also include tickets to the women's hockey games, have been sold as of July 15 according to Bluhm. That percentage does not include the 25 pre-sold suites, student section seats or allotments for visiting teams.

The BREC arena capacity is 4,700 for hockey.

BREC Executive Director Bob LeBarron said last week the arena and hockey construction is progressing on time.

The BSU office areas and locker rooms are nearly complete and the only thing left to do there is touch-up work.

"Pretty soon the teams can start moving in their equipment," LeBarron said. "Everything involved with hockey is moving rapidly. As a staff we are out of City Hall and our staff is growing. The pace of the work and construction is speeding up."

LeBarron said the arena seats will be installed in early August. The video scoreboard that will hang over center ice and the dasher boards will be installed in early September.

The first scheduled hockey game at the BREC is an Oct. 2 exhibition between the BSU men and the University of Manitoba, but that game will be played only if the arena's construction is complete.

The BSU men's hockey team will open the regular season with its first Western Collegiate Hockey Association game Oct. 15 against North Dakota and the women's hockey team will open the same day against Mercyhurst.

The women will play at 2:07 p.m. and the men follow at 7:37 p.m.

Bluhm said plenty of good seats remain available for the upcoming season and single tickets will likely be available for purchase.

"But tickets for that first series against North Dakota are going to be hard to find, if not impossible to get," Bluhm said.

A single, general admission season ticket to BSU men's games is $325 and includes a season ticket to all women's games.

Tickets in the alcohol-free family section are $275, but require a minimum purchase of two tickets.

Season tickets located in the Beaver Pride sections around center ice require a minimum annual contribution to Beaver Pride. Membership to Beaver Pride can include preferred parking at the BREC, Club Lounge access or season tickets to Bemidi State's NCAA Division II sports.

Season tickets can be purchased by calling the Beaver Pride office at 755-2827. More information is available online at
