Bemidji State football: Beavers remain on edge of national Top 25 poll
Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

The Bemidji State football team remained listed in the American Football Coaches Association Division II Top 25 Poll released Monday.

The Beavers received 43 votes in the poll, down from the 56 it received in the initial preseason poll.

Despite receiving fewer votes, the Beavers are still on the edge of breaking into the top 25. Only Nebraska-Kearney and East Stroudsbug (Pa.) are ahead of BSU in the poll among vote getters.

Bemidji State defeated Minot State 24-7 on the road in the season opener last Thursday night and are off this weekend.

Bemidji State could make a better case for cracking the top 25 in its next game. BSU hosts Augustana in the home opener Sept. 11 at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Augustana received 22 votes in the AFCA poll and reached the Mineral Water Bowl last season. It will be the first meeting between the two teams as members of the NSIC.

The Vikings finished last season tied for second in the NSIC South Division and were tied for third overall with Bemidji State.

Bemidji State's NSIC North rival Minnesota-Duluth moved up from the No. 4 to the No. 3 spot in the poll after defeating then No. 5 Central Washington 35-10 in its season opener.

Mankato was idle in the first weekend of play and moved up to No. 18 from No. 21.

Winona State and Wayne State moved into the top 25 after season-opening road wins over ranked opponents last week.

Winona State defeated then No. 9 Carson-Newman 24-21 and Wayne State defeated then No. 13 Nebraska-Kearney 24-17 in overtime.
