Bemidji State flounders in 73-57 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic

The Bemidji State women's basketball team went cold in the Sunshine State as it fell to Palm Beach Atlantic University 73-57 to close out the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Classic 0-2 on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The Beavers (2-2) shot just 29.4 percent from the field and hurt itself by committing 20 turnovers that turned into 34 points.

BSU started the game better than it had the day before as it led the Sailfish 9-5 eight minutes into the contest, but fell behind over the next four minutes as PBA rattled off 13 unanswered points to gain an 18-9 lead. A field goal from sophomore guard Melissa Borstner ended the run.

A 3-pointer from sophomore guard Morgan Lee put the Beavers back in the game as they trailed 18-14 with 8:29 left in the half.

Unfortunately for BSU, the Sailfish posted a 13-2 run to take a 31-16 lead with just 3:12 left in the half.

Bemidji State's Samantha Baldwin and junior Shannon Thompson guided BSU to an 11-2 run to close the half.

Baldwin made four straight points for the Beavers then Thompson took care of the rest, knocking down two crucial shots from beyond the three-point arc.

The Beavers shot 31 percent in the first half and had committed nine turnovers.

Palm Beach Atlantic shot 38 percent from the field, making five 3-pointers to the Beavers' four. Thompson led BSU in points at the half with 10.

Lee converted on two free throws to open the second half scoring and put BSU down four at 33-29, but that would be as close as the Beavers would get to taking a lead as the Sailfish opened up a 14 point lead with 12:24 remaining in the second half.

Lee scored 12 points in the second half to finish the game as BSU's leader with 17 points. Thompson finished with 11 points, while sophomore Kate Warmack closed the game with eight points and 11 rebounds, which tied her career-high and marked her second game this season with double-digit rebounds.
