Bemidji State falls to Metro State

WINONA – No. 5-ranked Metro State defeated Bemidji State 67-41 Saturday in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Challenge men’s basketball tournament.

The Beavers traded buckets with the Roadrunners for the first four minutes, trailing 4-3. Metro State then went on a 7-3 run to own an 11-6 lead with 11:53 remaining in the first half. BSU battled back with a 5-0 stretch that included a 3-pointer from newcomer Tor Anderson.

The Roadrunners battled back and ran out to a nine-point advantage at 22-13 with 5:48 remaining, but a 6-0 BSU run placed the Beavers within three at 22-19 with just under two minutes remaining. BSU would fail to score the rest of the frame and MSU held a 24-19 lead at the break.

The Beavers got within three early in the second half, but Metro State proved its No. 5 ranking by going on a 13-2 run to open a 37-23 lead. BSU would fail to get any closer than 12 the rest of the way

Zach Noreen finished with a team-high 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. The Beavers shot 34.9 percent from the field, while Roadrunners shot 53.2 percent.

The Beavers will head to Michigan for two nonconference contests against Michigan Tech on Tuesday and Finlandia on Wednesday.
