Bemidji State basketball teams set to open NSIC season at home
Bemidji State's basketball teams begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play tonight, hosting Minnesota State Moorhead at the BSU Gymnasium.
The women's teams will tip off at 6 p.m. and the men's game is scheduled to start at 8.
Another doubleheader is scheduled Saturday when the Beavers host Minnesota-Crookston.
The Beaver women, 2-1 in non-conference games, have been led by freshmen Ellie Wessling and Melissa Borstner. Wessling is averaging 14 points and nine rebounds. Borstner is averaging 13.7 points per game. Junior Samantha Baldwin is contributing 10.3 points. Joining those three in the starting lineup are senior Anna Hebrink and sophomore Jessie Althoff.
Moorhead is led by the conference's leading scorer to date, Angie Jetvig. The 6-2 junior is averaging 20.7 points and 11.3 rebounds through three games for the Dragons.
The Bemidji State men are riding a three-game winning streak after dropping their season opener at Michigan Tech.
Newcomer James Ellisor has made an immediate impact at Bemidji State, averaging 20.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. Senior Pat Cassidy is adding 16 points per game and junior Bryce Tesdahl is at 14.5.
