The Bemidji State baseball team opened the 2010 season Friday with a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota-Crookston at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The Beavers defeated the Golden Eagles 7-0 in Game 1 and 8-4 in Game 2.
In Game 1, the Beavers scored in every inning but the first with Nick Jelacie and Brian Murphy leading the way at the plate.
Jelacit was 4-for-4 with a two RBIs, a triple and three runs scored. Murphy was 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.
Ryan Sander earned the win for BSU by pitching six innings, striking out five and limiting Crookston to three hits.
In Game 2, the Beavers broke a 4-4 tie with a four-run bottom of the seventh inning for the win.
The Beavers got the go ahead run when Jelacie singled to start the inning, stole second base, advanced to second on a bunt by Dan Bauer and scored on Ryan Sander's sacrifice fly to right field. Doug Peterson, Brian Murphy and Riley Hirsh also scored in the five-hit inning for BSU.
The Beavers had 15 hits in the game with Joe Chism and Josh Silvernagel each recording three. Jelacie, Bauer and Sander had two hits.
Logan Kalis, Ethan Branum and Dan Bauer pitched the game with the Beavers. Branum was the pitcher of record and did not allow a hit in 2 2-3 innings of work.
Bemidji State played Rockhurst in a late doubleheader Saturday night at the Metrodome.
The Beavers (2-0) are then off until a four-game series at the Metrodome on Feb. 21-22 against Northern State.
