Bemidji State baseball: Bauer, Beavers gain split
Junior Dan Bauer's grand slam home run in the six-run second inning led the Bemidji State baseball team to an 8-7 victory over No. 29 Winona State and a split in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Friday at the BSU Baseball Field.
The Beavers lost game one 17-11, but were down only one run at 12-11 entering the decisive ninth inning.
The win snaps a seven-game losing streak, all of which were at home and in conference play. With a hit in each game, senior Josh Silvernagel extended his hitting streak to 10 games. In the last 10 games, Silvernagel has gone 15 of 35 at the plate for a .429 batting average, raising his season average to .353.
In the two games Friday, Bauer went 6 for 10 with four RBI.
Bauer had his first four-hit game as a Beaver in the nightcap, going 4 for 6 with two runs scored.
The Beavers complete their 12-game homestand and four-game series with Winona State Saturday with a doubleheader slated for a 12 noon start.
