Bemidji State 6th in preseason poll
For the second consecutive season and 10th time since 2000, Winona State was picked by the league's coaches to win the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer title in the preseason poll.
Bemidji State was picked to finish sixth in the 14-team conference. Among the players to watch for the Beavers were senior midfielder Bri Scanlan of East Grand Forks and senior goalkeeper Abby Kjonaas of Fargo.
Winona's Jennifer Deroo was tabbed as the NSIC preseason offensive player of the year while teammate Anna Belpedio was selected as the preseason defensive player of the year.
Winona State is coming off its seventh straight NSIC regular- season championship and a NSIC tournament crown.
The Warriors received 12 first-place votes and tallied 168 points, ranking them 22 points ahead of Minnesota-Duluth (146) which received one first place vote. Minnesota State was ranked third by the coaches as it picked up the other first-place pick to total 141 points.
Augustana came in fourth in the poll with 122 points while the University of Mary rounded out the top five with 115 points. Bemidji State had 111 points.
