Mercyhurst is the No. 2 ranked team in the country and was national runner up to Wisconsin last season.

The Beavers (0-2) open the WCHA season next weekend against Wisconsin. The Beavers will play the Badgers Saturday at Coleraine and Sunday at John Glas Fieldhouse.

No. 2 ranked Mercyhurst (2-0) jumped out to an early lead behind a Jesse Scanzano goal just five minutes into the game. Another goal by Bailey Bram gave the Lakers a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.

Like Friday's game, Mercyhurst put up four goals on the Beavers in the second period. The first two goals came on the power play and the last goal was short-handed.

Bemidji State scored its lone goal in the third period with 3:37 left in the game.

Erin Johnson scored her second goal of the season on the power play with assists from Annie Bauerfeld and Erin Cody.

Bemidji State was outshot in the game 44-17.

BSU sophomore goalie Alana McElhinney finished the game with 38 saves for the Beavers in her sixth career start.

Bemidji High School grad Jessica Christofferson started and played on the third line for the Lakers. She had two shots on goal.
