The 2008 national runner-up Lakers scored all four goals in the second period and outshot the Beavers 42-15 in the game.

"We were outshot, but there were definitely some plays where we kept up with the pace of Mercyhurst," BSU head coach Steve Sertich said.

Annie Bauerfeld had Bemidji State's lone goal of the game, scoring unassisted on the power play with 55 seconds left in the third period.

Zuzana Tomcikova played the entire game for the Beavers and finished with 38 saves, making double-digit saves in every period.

The Beavers were 1-for-11 on the power play and the Lakers finished 1-for-9.

Cassea Schols opened scoring at 6:10 on the power play with assists from Jessica Christofferson and Jesse Scanzano.

Christofferson was Bemidji High School's top scorer last season and is a freshman at Mercyhurst.

Vicki Bendus scored the game-winner with an unassisted, short-handed goal at 8:49.

Kelley Steadman scored at 11:47 and Jess Jones scored at 18:32 of the second period to wrap up Mercyhurst scoring.
