The Beavers lost to No. 22 Wayne State 3-2 at BSU Gymnasium Saturday afternoon by set scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-7.

The loss came one day after Bemidji State defeated Augustana 3-2.

The Beavers (6-11, 3-4 NSIC) were able to carry some momentum over from the win over Augustana by leading the first set wire-to-wire.

Wayne State, coming off a pair of losses to two top-10 ranked teams, rolled in the second set and used a 6-2 run midway through the third set to put the Beavers on the brink.

Like Friday night, the Beavers came back from a 2-1 set deficit against the Wildcats (17-4, 5-2 NSIC) with a strong fourth set to force a decisive fifth set.

But this time the Beavers couldn't pull through and the Wildcats prevailed behind Jennifer Hefner's seven kills in the fifth set.

Courtney Bitter had 49 set assists and seven kills for BSU.

Melissa McNeely had a breakout game and finished tied for a team-high 14 kills with Nicole Olson.

Lindsey Weyer continued her big weekend by tying for a team-high 17 digs.

Laura Slinger (OH, Faribault, Minn.) had 10 kills and four block assists for the Beavers.

BSU now goes on a four-match road trip, which starts Tuesday night at No. 10 ranked Minnesota-Duluth.
