Bemidji St. volleyball: Road trip ends with a loss to Upper Iowa

The Bemidi State University volleyball team finished a three-match road trip that spanned three states in five days with a 3-0 loss to Upper Iowa.

The set scores were 25-23, 28-26 and 25-16.

Bemidji State's record fell to 5-10 overall and 2-3 in the NSIC.

The first two sets could have gone either way.

In the first, BSU got down early and didn't earn the lead until 22-21. Upper Iowa used a pair of aces to win the set.

The second set went into extra points after Bemidji State could not hold on to a 21-16 lead. Upper Iowa rallied with a 7-2 run and went on to win.

Three Beavers posted double-digits in digs, led by freshman Samantha Hertaus' 14. Brie Groskruetz had 12 and Laura Carlson had 10.

Nicole Olson had a team-high 10 kills and was the only Beaver to post double digits in kills.

Courtney Bitter had 37 set assists and nine digs. Bitter moved into eighth all time on the career assists list with 1,383. She surpassed Kristy Grann (1990-91), who had 1,343 in her career.
