The Bemidji State soccer team lost to Upper Iowa 2-1 in the wind and rain Friday afternoon.
"I thought the score was a fair score," said head coach Jim Stone. "They out-played us a bit today. We had trouble keeping possession, which led to us defending for most of the match. It's hard to win a game when you're defending for 90 minutes."
The loss ended Bemidji State's winning streak at three games and dropped the Beavers record to 7-3-0 (3-2-0 NSIC)
Upper Iowa improved to 6-5-1 (2-2-0 NSIC).
The Beavers started out strong scoring an early goal. In the tenth minute, Brianna Duff took a strike from 18 yards hit the top corner for her seventh goal of the year. Ashlee Ellefsen was credited with the assist.
Ellefsen now has 67 points in her career. She needs five more to become the team's all-time leading scorer.
Duff's goal was the only goal of the first half.
Upper Iowa scored the equalizer in the 64th minute and an own goal in the 70th minute gave the Peacocks the late lead.
Bemidji State keeper Samantha Ross recorded 9 saves in the match.
The Bemidji State soccer team will travel to Winona State on Sunday to face the Warriors at 1 p.m.
