Bemidji splits with East Grand Forks

EAST GRAND FORKS - Tuesday night Bemidji downed East Grand Forks 7-2 in the first game of a doubleheader but the home team bounced the Vets 13-3 in the rematch.

Brady Eckman belted a double and a triple and Tyler Geerdes contributed a single and a double in the opener. Gabe Salander and Cody Anderson combined on Bemidji's mound for a 4-hitter.

The VFW (7-3) broke the game open with five runs in the fourth. Keying the rally were Eckman's double and Dan Johnson's RBI single.

In the second game East Grand Forks dominated the middle innings and cruised to the win. The VFW took a brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Collin Rutledge reached on a passed ball and eventually scored on Eckman's sacrifice fly.

Bemidji tallied its other two runs in the fifth on Seth Anderson's single, a walk, an error and a passed ball.
