Bemidji Speedway: VanMill loves to race with passion
Doug VanMill has been racing for 10 years. This year the Bagley area racer is driving the No. 8 Eagle Chassis Wissota Midwest Modified at Bemidji Speedway.
"As a kid I went to the races, so growing up I always wanted to be a racer so I could drive fast," said VanMill. "I just love to race. I enjoy the competition along with everyone involved with the sport as we share the same passion."
VanMill has had a lot of success in the sport he loves. In 2002 alone, he was named NOPA national points runner-up, NOPA racer of the year (voted by his competitors), Warren track champion and Bemidji Speedway track champion. He also won the track championship at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks in 2000.
Each of these honors were for driving in the Street Stock class. This year he is racing at Greenbush Race Park and Bemidji Speedway in the Midwest Modified class.
VanMill credits his wife Sue, family, friends and sponsors for helping him "live his dream."
His sponsors are Up North Antlers in Menahga, Auto Value of Bagley and Moose Creek Graphics of Bagley.
VanMill says to "finish the race and load the car in one piece and to win a feature in the Midwest Modified division," are his goals at this time.
He can be seen racing on Sunday nights at Bemidji Speedway starting at 5 p.m. The speedway will announce its 2010 Hall of Fame inductees. That announcement was postponed last week due to weather conditions.
