Bemidji Speedway racers respond to DARE Night crowd

Bemidji Speedway played host to DARE Night Sunday night with officers Stephen Dow and Paul Smith on hand to talk to kids about resisting drugs. Dark skies threatened the evening's events but cleared by intermission and everyone was invited onto the track to meet their favorite drivers and get autographs.

Four first-time winners out of seven features highlighted the racing with first-time winners in the Wissota Super Stocks, Pures, Minis, and Hornets.

Scott Messner took the initial lead in the Street Stocks with Don Bowman close behind. Messner maintained his lead to the end while Tim Johnson passed Bowman for second. Bowman finished third, Dustin Puffe fourth and Todd Wooden fifth.

In the Midwest Modified Feature Tim Carlson took the lead after a caution late in the race and outlasted Doug VanMill for the victory. Davey Mills finished third, Matt Fullerton fourth and Matt Schow fifth.

In the Mod Four Feature Corey VanMill took the lead on the third lap and held that position through a caution for the win. Conrad Schwin was second, Tommy McGough third, Fran hauber fourth and Mike Margl fifth.

Joel Harvey built a comfortable lead in the Pure Stock Feature and maintained it the rest of the way. Placing second was Wade Schmidt while Corey Peterson was third, Don Scholler fourth and Bill Chaboyea fifth.

Leahna Barrett took the lead on the final lap of the Mini Stock Feature and claimed her first victory at Bemidji Speedway. A close second was Matt Everts while Sherman Rogalaski Sr. was third, Neil Fleming fourth and Becky Barrett fifth.

Jason Bush also used a last-lap pass to win his first Speedway victory, the Hornet Feature. Cody Buchanan was second, John Aderman Third, don Kolkin fourth and Andy Hanson fifth.

Tim Johnson withstood the challenges of Jeff Tardy and Tyler Kintner to claim the Super Stock Feature. Tardy placed second, Kintner third, Donnie Lofdahl fourth and Matt Sparby fifth.
