For Matt Fullerton, it was friendships that got him into racing.

"I got to know Ricky Jacobson and helped him with his car for a few years and then decided it was time to give it a try," said Fullerton. "And once you start, it has to be one of the most addicting things there is."

Fullerton, 27, lives in Bemidji with his wife, Paula, and son, Michael. He has been racing for seven years, currently in a Affordable Chassis Wissota Midwest Modified. Fullerton works at Catco in the parts and sales department.

"I enjoy the rush of excitement that you get every time you get in the car," he said. "The friends you make at the track are like no other. Everyone helps; it's really cool to see.

Fullerton has had some wild rides over the years, and was named "rollover king" at Bemidji Speedway in 2004. But being named Track Champion in 2006 in the B-Modified class is a highlight of his racing career.

Fullerton credits his parents, Jim and Pat, and brother Jason for their help. His sponsors are Neapco, 3rd Base Bar and Grill, Bessler Brothers Electric, City Sanitary, Pine Ridge Auto, KRKB Music Outlet, Sadek's Repair and BS Graphics.

He races at Bemidji Speedway, Brainerd, Ada, Jamestown, Buffalo River, Proctor, Grand Rapids and Hibbing.

Fullerton says his goal in racing is to once again win a track championship. He can be seen racing Sunday at Bemidji Speedway in the No. 1 Midwest Modified car. Racing starts at 5 p.m. with the track announcing its Hall of Fame inductees for 2010 during intermission.
