Bemidji softball team wins big at Fargo North
Taylor McLean yielded only four runs and her offense erupted for 17 as the Bemidji softball team improved to 12-5 after demolishing Fargo North 17-4 Tuesday in Fargo.
"We've played six games in four days and, although we had a couple of rough spots, all in all I think we're coming together," said BHS coach Brad Takkunen.
The stretch began Saturday when the Lumberjacks went 2-1 in a four-team round-robin at Cloquet. Monday Bemidji split with West Fargo, winning 1-0 and falling 7-5.
Bemidji will conclude the week with Thursday's home game against Grand Rapids and Saturday's trip to Detroit Lakes where it will tangle with Thief River Falls and the host team.
Fargo North couldn't keep up with the Jacks Tuesday as BHS opened with four runs in the first inning and cemented the win with eight in the fourth and four in the fifth.
The lone inning Bemidji failed to score was the third.
"We talked after that inning and the girls responded with eight runs," Takkunen said. "We did what we were supposed to do against Fargo North."
Summer Monsrud set the tone with a walk to open the game. By inning's end McLean would contribute an RBI double and Jess Yost and Kellie Morehouse would provide run-scoring singles.
Monsrud walked and scored again in the second and Bemidji's 8-run fourth began with Janelle Williams' single.
The inning also featured Yost's double, Morehouse's 2-run single and RBI singles by Laura Clark, Jineane Williams, Janelle Williams and Hanna Olson.
Bemidji's 4-run fifth included singles by Anna Pence, Clark and Janelle Williams.
McLean went the distance on the mound. She walked one and struck out one.
Janelle Williams had three singles while Yost contributed a double and a single. Morehouse and Clark each had two singles.
