Bemidji softball team win two of three at Cloquet round robin
The Bemidji girls softball team won two of its three games at Saturday's Cloquet round robin.
BHS dropped its opener 16-6 to the home team but recovered nicely, outlasting Big Lake 8-7 in nine innings and belting Grand Rapids 14-5.
Saturday's results upped Bemidji's record to 10-4. The Jackso host West Fargo Monday in a doubleheader at 4:30 p.m.
Cloquet dominated the Jacks in Saturday's first game as it scored in all but the first inning.
BHS opened the scoring with a run on the first as Summer Monsrud singled, stole second, gained third on a wild pitch and completed her trek around the bases courtesy of Jineane Williams' ground ball.
Cloquet, however, pounded 21 hits to take command of the game.
Against Big Lake BHS scored a run in the eighth inning to tie the game and tallied the winning run in the ninth.
In the bottom of the eighth Anna Pence doubled and T.J. Olson pinch ran. Olson gained third on Clark's ground ball and scored the tying run on a passed ball.
In the decisive ninth Jineane Williams singled, Janelle Williams doubled and Hanna Olson hit the game-winning grounder.
Jineane Williams had three singles and Janelle Williams two doubles. Yost and McLean each had a pair of singles.
Saturday's final game saw the Lumberjacks score five in the first and settle the issue with two in the second and four in the third.
Jineane Williams had a 2-run single, Hanna Olson an RBI double and Pence a 2-run double in the opening inning.
McLean doubled and scored in the second and the third-inning highlights included Bri Glynn's RBI single and Janelle William's 3-run double.
Janelle Williams also tripled and scored in the fourth.
