Bemidji soccer teams enter second round of playoffs

The Bemidji boys soccer team will host Detroit Lakes 1 p.m. today in the quarterfinals of the Section 8A tournament.

Bemidji's girls also advanced to the quarterfinals and will visit Alexandria 1 p.m. today.

In Thursday's opening round of the boys playoffs the Lumberjacks blistered Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 9-0 and Detroit Lakes headed to East Grand Forks and returned with a 3-2 victory.

Thursday's other boys results found Little Falls thumping Sauk Rapids 6-1, St. Cloud Cathedral blanking Minnewaska 5-0, Sartell receiving a bye, St. Cloud Apollo shutting out St. John's Prep 3-0, Hillcrest Lutheran Academy downing Crookston 7-0 and Alexandria trimming Fergus Falls 3-0.

In addition to the Bemidji-Detroit Lakes game, today's quarterfinal schedule finds St. Cloud Cathedral visiting Little Falls, Sartell hosting St. Cloud Apollo and Hillcrest entertaining Alexandria.

Today's winners will return to action Tuesday. If the Lumberjacks win they will host the Little Falls-St. Cloud Cathedral winner at 4 p.m.

In the girls division Bemidji blanked Hillcrest Lutheran Academy 3-0 in Bemidji Thursday while Alexandria escaped Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 1-0.

BHS was seeded third in the North Sub-Section while Alexandria was the second seed.

Thursday's other lower-bracket results found Sauk Rapids defeating St. Cloud Apollo 2-0 and Sartell receiving a bye.

In the upper bracket East Grand Forks ripped Crookston 8-0, Detroit Lakes tripped Fergus Falls 3-1, St. Cloud Cathedral hammered Minnewaska 11-0 and St. John's Prep downed Little Falls 2-0.

In addition to Bemidji's game at Alexandria today's quarterfinal schedule sees Sartell hosting Sauk Rapids, St. John's Prep heading to St. Cloud Cathedral and Detroit Lakes making the trip to East Grand Forks.

Today's winners will advance to the semifinals on Tuesday. Bemidji could have a home game if it defeats Alexandria and Sauk Rapids upsets Sartell.
